Palm transplant

by Bruce Wadd

Completing the final section of my garden’s transformation brought great joy.  Adding rich soil, covering it with mulch, and then adding significant and appropriate plants were the final stages of several years’ work.

The palm was the most delicate part of the transformation.  This one metre tall specimen was taken from another section of our garden.  Digging carefully around the roots, and keeping plenty of moist soil attached were critical elements.  The actual planting was a two-minute exercise, though.

Then on a daily basis we watched to see what would transpire regarding the plant’s health.  Within a day the plant was starting to lean over.  Before seven days had passed this tropical specimen had dying leaves.

After a fortnight every leaf was brown, and it was looking quite dead. Amazingly, though, everything was still standing upright.

What was going on?  It didn’t take long to find out.  Digging lightly around the base I noticed a whole new root system starting to establish itself for future plant survival and growth.  The changes were all happening underneath the surface.

Your life is similar.  When God comes into your life, there are often immediate changes, but there are also things that happen very slowly.  God is working on the inside – working on changing your ‘life-source’.  Life is now coming from the inside!

“So look upon your old sin nature as dead and unresponsive to sin, and instead be alive to God, alert to him,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 6:11

Today, your life transplant in God means growing on the inside first!
