Over the falls

by Bruce Wadd

This is a phrase that no surfer wants to encounter, but in reality endures at some point in their experience.

Surfers will understand.  Other readers may not… so let me take a moment to explain the experience!

When a surfer tries to catch a wave, there is a point of no return.  The faster and stronger the wave the more critical this point is.  Quite often the surfer doesn’t realise the strength of the wave till it's too late, having no choice but to go ‘over the falls’ – crashing down with the breaking wave.

For those that have had the experience, relive the tumult for a moment.  Remember being tossed around like in a washing machine!  Some will have hit rock or sand or coral or board, injuring their bodies and maybe their egos.  Others will have survived the occurrence, and like me, have done it many times since.

Life can sometimes provide plenty of ‘over the falls’ encounters.  You might be right in the midst of one at the moment.  Imagine being able to go through things knowing that everything will be OK. Here's the truth...

“But despite all this, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us enough to die for us.”
Romans 8:37

Today, claim victory despite the disaster!
