My secret place

by Bruce Wadd

As a teenager I had two timeout places that were really important for thinking and dreaming. The first was a special little portion of rainforest in a secluded hillside surrounded by tall eucalypts and open bushland.

The second was a headland overlooking my favourite surf spot.

Both places were very special in those formative years, where many adult concepts were developed. It was tough trying to leave childhood behind, and discover the adult person of my dreams.

The smooth swell lines, the occasional broaching whale; the playful dolphin; the subtly of hidden ferns – all these allowed me to enjoy the moment; to appreciate the beautiful natural surroundings that I grew up in.

The peace and quiet were important! I never realized how important this foundation of quietness and appreciation was for my adult life.

Now older, I have found that my secret place is in God. The peace that I experience is almost like a drug. I don’t want to be anywhere but in that secret place, and I find it difficult to explain to others.

Where is your secret place?

“Let us do our best to go into that place of rest, too,

being careful not to disobey God

as the children of Israel did, thus failing to get in.”

Hebrews 4:11

TODAY, spend time in your secret place!
