Kitchen table drop zone

by Bruce Wadd

Every relationship has its sticky points, and today I wanted to raise one of those to ponder.  It may sound insignificant or trivial, but the learning that has happened for me as a ‘loving’ husband has been slow and painful.

My wife is a talented creator of many things, but her interpretation of neat and tidy is quite different to mine.  It is not as important to her!

Regularly our kitchen table is the ‘drop zone’ for lots of ‘stuff’ that doesn’t belong there.  More often than not, a certain husband (that will remain nameless) gets ‘bent out of shape’ with the annoyance of not being able to sit and eat without clearing the mess!

Trivial?  Maybe, but this issue has caused a few confrontations during our married life.

Fortunately, God has lately been calling me to account, and really challenging my genuine love for my wife.  Do I really love her?  Does love include acknowledging and accepting my wife’s differences, particularly the ones that annoy me greatly?

What is God trying to show me?  Is this issue resolved?  No, but God is showing me what is really important in this dilemma – my arrogant heart that needs softening!

Maybe you also have people that irritate you.  What is your response when they annoy?

Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall.  God blesses those who obey him; happy is the man who puts his trust in the Lord.”

Proverbs 16:18, 20

Today, use annoying things to build you… trust in Him!
