Gentle whisper

by Bruce Wadd

[WARNING: I am going to show my age in this article!]

There are times when life gets too noisy. Today, our western world is like a teenager doing homework.  The books are open, the walkman is blaring, radio is on, television audible in the background, people are chatting in the next room… and the dog is barking outside!  What an overabundance of noise!  But miraculously, the homework gets done!

My hesitation with the busy lifestyle of many people, cramming so much into both work and entertainment, is that they may miss an important ‘God’ message.  You might be one of those people, and I wanted to take a quiet moment to challenge you with a thought.

Elijah, a special person from the Bible, faced some real difficulties towards the end of his life. He was searching for some deep answers.  He was hidden away in a cave, suffering ‘navel-gazing’ disease, when God challenged him to face up to life.  God’s message wasn’t in the windstorm, the violent earthquake or raging fire, but rather, in a gentle whisper.

Are you listening for that voice?  In the noise and rush of life you may be missing the most profound voice of all time!

“…and after the fire there was the sound of

a gentle whisper.  When Elijah heard it,

he wrapped his face in his scarf and went out

and stood at the entrance of the cave…”

1 Kings 19:12b,13a

TODAY, take time to hear the whispers!
