Burrowing down

by Bruce Wadd

It’s a natural response!  When an animal is under attack, self-protection and survival are its immediate priority.

This morning I watched a beetle use its elaborate survival technique.  Having picked up this prickly customer from my bathroom floor, it immediately started making weird noises and squirming profusely.

After dropping it several times, I finally got it to the garden where I dropped it onto mulch-covered ground, and saw the creature burrow furiously into the loose coverings.  In seconds it was gone, buried for survival!

Here’s an alternative that we are challenged to adopt as Christians.  Jesus’ death, a long time ago, means that every circumstance we face in life has already been taken care of.  We don’t need to run or hide.  Rather, we can face each experience as something God will use for our good, and the good of others.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord

and has made the Lord his hope and confidence.”

Jeremiah 17:7

Today, live above the surface!
