Don’t feed the ibis

by Bruce Wadd

Whilst visiting Southbank, a large public park in my city, I sat at a coffee shop and noticed a sign from The Ibis Management Coordination Group.  The name sounded very official and important, and out of the ordinary enough for me to take the time to read the message.

To summarize, they had been having problems with people feeding the ibis at this popular family destination, and thus the signs were directing the visitors to abstain from feeding the ibis.

Why?

Well, ibis, similar to seagulls, are scavengers, and they know that if there is the possibility of free food, they will hang around, using their most annoying voices.  Once someone starts throwing morsels of food the message gets around the ibis community and quickly the bird crowd increases.

It’s certainly much harder to stop the congregating once the message becomes known!

That’s just like evil angels.  They hang around you, as a Christian, and as soon as there is a sign of taking your eyes off your Saviour, the message goes out…and the temptations start coming…using their most enticing voices!

But here’s the good news! Jesus accepts and understands you just where you are, no matter how many ibis are squawking at you!

“Stand firm when he attacks.  Trust the Lord;

and remember that other Christians all around the world are going through these sufferings too.”

I Peter 5:9

TODAY, trust in Him through the tough times!
