Lighthouse

by Georgina Tumu

From afar it stands; overlooking the blue Pacific Ocean is one of Papua New Guinea’s famous historical sites and Madang’s pride – Kalibobo Lighthouse.

“Amazing… beautiful… magnificent… like a rocket ready to take off”…. were words people commonly use when sighting Kalibobo lighthouse for the first time.

Living close to the lighthouse, my family and I usually visit the lighthouse during the night to see the magnificent rays of light it gives out to the big ships in the ocean charting their way into Madang harbour.

Looking at the lighthouse, it reminds me of God’s love and protection for his children. Like ships in the ocean, we sometimes toss and turn, having no clue where we are heading, but breaking though the deep stormy weather comes God’s light rays of hope…. gently leading us to our final destination.

‘I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness,

but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

God is our beacon of light to guide, let us look to him for direction!
