The devil is a dog

by Bruce Wadd

One of the privileges of life is walking through the bush every morning with our family dog. Because my family and I live in a new estate we are adjacent to lots of typical Australian bush – tall eucalypt trees, shrubs and grass.

Walking through this environment in the freshness of the morning allows both owner and pet to walk with freedom and enjoyment. The dog spends the majority of his time sniffing, looking for excitement, something to do. He regularly chases birds and rabbits, and on the rare occasion finds a wallaby for the ‘hunt’.

The thing that I noted recently is his constant vigilance, sniffing and chasing opportunities. He is always looking, listening, smelling! His heightened state of awareness means he misses very little, and is ready for almost anything.

It reminded me of a warning about the devil. He, too, is always looking for chances to infiltrate your life. He is never too far away from spoiling something, bringing ruin, disappointment, destruction to things around you.

Are you watching? Are you aware of what’s going on around you?

“Be careful – watch out for attacks from Satan,

your great enemy.

He prowls around like a hungry roaring lion,

looking for some victim to tear apart.”

1 Peter 5:8

Prayer gives you the protection you need. Simply open your life to Jesus again!

TODAY, pray, stay vigilant and alert!
