Undoing the Christmas wrappings

by Bruce Wadd

Where would Christmas be without presents?  The joy of giving and receiving wrapped parcels of mystery and excitement!

Scott, a favourite uncle of my children, was staying with us for a few days during the festive season, and we all wanted to do something special for him.

The family had purchased a special present for Uncle Scott.  It was small but extremely significant, and seeing he had a sense of humour, the scene was set.

During wrapping time on Christmas Eve the family got a large box and began wrapping this gift many times using a wide variety of papers.  Finally this special present was complete, with special coloured paper and a bow, and then placed under the tree.

At present-opening time Uncle Scott was handed his present and began the unwrapping process.  Everyone’s eyes watched the constant peeling of paper, the growing pile of rubbish, increasing the sense of excitement and expectation for each family member.

Finally, after five minutes of expectation, frustration and ripping, a small yet valuable family heirloom became the possession of this favourite uncle.  Everyone was finally able to laugh about the situation.

God wants the Gospel to be the same.  Taking away all the religious coverings wrapped over the centuries, the gift of God is eternal life because of His sacrifice for YOU.

It is simple, small, but has everlasting significance.

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16

Unwrap it TODAY!
