1-2-3 bungy!!!

by Bruce Wadd

Last week some friends came back from a holiday in New Zealand – the home of the modern bungy!  On video I watched Karl, the 14 year-old, jumping into a ravine using the traditional “1-2-3” launch sequence.

Having never ‘bungied’, I couldn’t resist asking this strapping young man about the experience.  I wondered…

  • How did you feel before, during and after the experience?

  • Is there ever a point during the drop where you forget about the chord securely attached to your ankles?

  • Does the freedom of dropping in mid-air overcome the pounding heart of fear?

  • Is there ever a thought about the bungy chord snapping or not working properly?

Then the answers made me ponder further…

I wonder how much taking a bungy jump is like being a Christian?  The greatest rewards come when we step out into the unknown, knowing with absolute confidence that God’s secure chord is attached.

When’s the last time you ‘bungied' for God?

“Abraham trusted God… away he went
not even knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8
